After several days of solid riding, we did something very unlike us: we decided to take it easy.
Day 5 (part 4) began with a return to Wales — specifically, the beautiful Isle of Anglesey. Following a late-night arrival (around 2:30am), we were long overdue a lie-in. So, for once, we gave ourselves permission to not rush. The morning was gloriously lazy. No alarms. No route planning. Just lounging in our new (yet to be unpacked) accommodation with only biscuits passing as breakfast and lunch. Living the dream!
After a slow start, it was time to get back out and enjoy our motorbike trip around the Isle of Anglesey — a relaxed ride of around 3–4 hours that gave us time to soak in the scenery and seaside charm of this uniquely Welsh spot.
Our first proper stop was The Sea Shanty Cafe, a gem tucked right by the beach in Trearddur Bay. This place was spot on — full of character, with thoughtfully quirky décor and a warm, beachy vibe. For a Monday outside the school holidays, it was surprisingly busy — always a good sign. And yep, it delivered: cracking food, great service, and a chill beachy atmosphere that made us want to stay all afternoon.
Full, happy, and with slightly tighter trousers, we remounted and continued our relaxed loop around the island. The weather, however, had other ideas. Let’s just say... the wind had opinions today. We couldn't complain, it was still sunny, relatively dry and honestly we have seen all weather conditions (and that was just on the drive down). We weren’t about to waste the day. One of our must-see stops was the iconic Menai Suspension Bridge — and it did not disappoint. A few quick facts:
Menai Bridge Facts:
Opened in 1826, it was the world’s first major suspension bridge.
Designed by Thomas Telford, it connects the Isle of Anglesey to mainland Wales.
Built to allow horses and carriages safe passage over the fast-flowing Menai Strait.
Its impressive span and historic engineering make it both a functional and photogenic masterpiece.
Snapped some photos, took in the views, and let the wind whip our faces for a bit. Absolutely worth it.
The rest of the afternoon was gloriously unscripted — the kind of exploring you can only do on a bike. As part of this motorbike trip to the Isle of Anglesey, we purposely took wrong turns, detoured down country lanes, and soaked up the island’s coastal magic.
The whole place had a chilled, nostalgic seaside feel — ideal for relaxed riding and random discoveries.
Eventually, with snack supplies in hand and windburn on our cheeks, we cruised back to our Annexe. Plans for tomorrow were quietly forming — something a bit more ambitious, maybe — so we called it an early night. After all, the trip isn’t over yet, and there just might be one more country calling our names…
Until next time – Two Idiots (still on a bike... and still lost on purpose).
